A career as a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technologist is exciting for those who are passionate about health care, patient comfort and saving lives. As a technologist, you are asked to operate MRI scanners and to ensure that the procedure produces quality images and information for the health care professional to make an accurate diagnosis. You have the chance to work and interact directly with patients as you ensure that they are comfortable and calm. Utilize your medical knowledge by interviewing patients, explaining the procedure and placing the patient in the appropriate spot on the table. Technologists are also organized, detail-oriented people who are familiar with the anatomical area that is being scanned and the patient’s history. Develop relationships with patients as you help diagnose their condition as an MRI technologist.
A Brief Overview
This position exists to serve as the experienced contributor with responsibility for advanced area of work in their professional area Direct and indirect clinical coordination of employees in an assigned area.
What You Will Do
- To ensure safe and efficient operations of the department. Demonstrates successful patient/technical skills by producing a variety of procedures while maintaining the high standards of patient care.
- Maintains licensure and continuing education requirements of staff if applicable.
- Preserves support for the learning environment of the hospital and the department of diagnostic imaging.
- Contributes to the successful operations of the department through effective communication, coordination and leadership.
- Collaborates effectively with co-workers within the department and throughout the institution to ensure that assignments are completed in a professional and effective manner.
- Displays a commitment to the hospital’s mission and values.
- Provides age-specific care to patients from neonates through geriatrics.
- Coordinates all ACR/ODH duties to ensure yearly inspections and constant compliance with ACR/ODH standards.
- Expert in all areas of ACR/ODH standards, QC testing, procedures and required written documentation, as required for the area of expertise.
- Images patients in their area (s) of credentialing/licensure
- Education of staff and physicians in equipment operations.

- Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Qualifications
Education
- Associate’s Degree (Required) or
- Associate’s Degree Coin Radiologic Technology (Required)
Work Experience
- 5+ years Experience in the area of expertise (Preferred)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Clear knowledge of MRI equipment, image printers, computers, and Radiology Information System, PACS, and Electronic Medical Record, (Required proficiency)
- Excellent knowledge of image and exam protocols. (Required proficiency)
- Proficiencies for instructing students and new staff. (Required proficiency)
- Must demonstrate effective organizational, written, and oral communication skills. (Required proficiency)
- Ability to act as a lead when supervisor is unavailable (Required proficiency)
- Excellent customer service skills (Required proficiency)
- Ability to work independently (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Technolgoist MRI (ARRT-MR) (Required) and
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Upon Hire (Required) or
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) (Required)
