Description
A Brief Overview
Assist patients and health care needs as directed by clinician during Emergency Department visit including performing 12 lead EKGs, blood draws, initiate Hep-locks, bedside point of care testing, aerosol treatments. Ensures the daily completion of point of care testing quality controls, defibrillator checks, refrigerator checks, transports. Performs ABGs and gain IV access as directed by order. Prepares patients and care environment for exam, specimen collection and anticipates needs of patients and providers proactively. Performs delegated basic procedures as described by their annual competency based tool and orientation program.

- Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Qualifications
Education
- Other Accredited Program: Graduated from a state accredited paramedic program (Required)
Work Experience
- 3+ years Paramedic Experience (Level II)
- 5+ years Paramedic Experience (Level III) OR Associates degree and 3 years’ experience Bachelors of Science degree in Emergency Medical Services OR classroom/clinical instructor (ACLS, PALS, ITLS, BLS instructor)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Able to communicate effectively with people from varied socioeconomic backgrounds; able to organize changing work assignments. (Required proficiency)
- Medical terminology. (Preferred proficiency)
- Patient care equipment specific to assigned population, telephone, beeper system, and nurse call system.
- Three Peer Reviews required for Level II and III
- Criteria to Promote and Maintain (five for Level II; seven for Level III)
Licenses and Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- State of Ohio Paramedic Certification required. (Required Upon Hire)
- PALS (exception CMC) (Required within 6 Months)
- Paramedic Specialty Certification (doesn’t include BLS, ACLS, ITLS, PALS, or NRP) ; required for Level II & III) (Required)
