University Hospitals (UH) and Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) Center for Clinical Ethics is seeking candidates for its Clinical Ethics Fellowship. This is a full time, benefits eligible, two year position that begins July 1st 2025. Under the guidance of the Fellowship Director, the fellow will work with senior clinical ethicists and mentors on a high-volume adult and pediatric ethics consultation service (>400 consults annually within the UH Health System). The fellow will also support the work of ethics committees, participate in the ethics education of clinicians and bioethics students, contribute to ethics policy development, and conduct high-quality research and/or scholarship in the field of clinical ethics.
Based in Cleveland, Ohio, University Hospitals offers primary, community-based, and specialty healthcare services for children and adults throughout northeast Ohio. On a mission to heal, teach, and discover, University Hospitals’ history dates back to 1866, and it’s now a leading healthcare system that operates more than 50 health centers and 21 hospitals across Northeast Ohio. Located on the same block as University Hospitals, Case Western Reserve University’s Department of Bioethics was founded as the first Department of Bioethics in 2001. It launched one of the first Master of Arts Program in Bioethics, and, in 1999, launched the first PhD Program in Bioethics. A leader in education and research, the Department provides advanced training in bioethics for students and professionals and conducts research in areas that include, but are not limited to, genomics, social and environmental determinants of health, bioethics education, and clinical ethics.
The Fellowship Offers:
· Acquisition of core competencies to conduct clinical ethics consultations in a variety of clinical settings by learning to assess medical facts, appreciate patient issues, and analyze human values in medicine.
· Development of communication and facilitation skills to resolve conflicts and dilemmas in ethics consultation.
· Practice in pedagogy through ethics education in an academic medical center, regional hospitals, and university.
· Engagement in ethics related research and scholarship, quality improvement, organizational ethics, and policy development and review.
· Mentorship for professional development and career guidance.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
· Education – Terminal post graduate degree in fields related to bioethics, including, but not limited to, medicine, nursing, philosophy, social work, social sciences, and/or the law.
· Experience & Knowledge – University-level teaching experience and/or ethics publication in peer-reviewed journals and/or demonstrated clinical experience.
· Skills – Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication.
