A Brief Overview
The Director of Accounting is responsible for overseeing the financial accounting and reporting functions of a large, multi-facility healthcare system. This role ensures compliance with all accounting requirements, maintains internal controls, and provides financial insights to support strategic decision-making. The Director leads a team of accounting professionals and collaborates with operational and financial leaders to drive accuracy, efficiency, and fiscal responsibility.
What You Will Do
- Oversee the preparation and accuracy of financial statements in accordance with GAAP and healthcare industry standards.
- Manage annual audits, including coordination with external auditors and preparation of audit schedules.
- Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure proper financial governance.
- Direct general ledger accounting, monthly close processes, and financial reconciliations.
- Oversee revenue recognition, expense allocations, and financial consolidations across multiple entities.
- Lead and mentor a team of accountants, ensuring professional development and high performance.
- Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making by executive leadership.
- Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and best practices to enhance financial operations.
- Assist in the development of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor financial performance against budgets, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.

- Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field (Required)
- Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Healthcare Administration (Preferred)
Experience Qualifications
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience (Required)
- experience in managing accounting operations for a mulit-entity healthcare system (Preferred)
Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, healthcare reimbursement, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with hospital finance, physician practice accounting, and revenue cycle financial reporting.
- Proficiency in financial systems (e.g., Workday, Oracle, Epic, or other healthcare ERP systems).
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to analyze complex financial data and present insights to executive leadership.
