A Brief Overview
Position will oversee Histology and Grossing areas
Oversees and coordinates the daily operations of the Laboratory in collaboration with the Medical Director and the Laboratory Manager to provide high-quality, cost-effective patient care.
What You Will Do
- Accurately, timely, and efficiently performs moderate and high complexity testing
- Supervises daily activities of department’s staff
- Creates departmental staffing schedule and manages timecards while assuring department is staffed to volumes
- Monitor and improves compliance w/ CAP checklist items Including Common and General checklists as applicable
- Implements safety standards and ensures a safe working environment Identifies potential Process Improvement activities
- Participates in organizational and interdepartmental committees to promote change and improve Laboratory service
- Maintains personnel records Evaluates performance of staff, Including annual reviews and competencies
- Provides coaching and disciplinary action as needed. Identifies training needs and ensures competency of all testing personnel and that the staff maintain their competency to perform testing
- Hold regular staff Huddles Investigates and Documents all non-conforming events, complaints, grievances and other incidents. Ensures there is proper documentation of event, follow up, and subsequent monitoring to ensure resolution

- Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Education
- Associate’s Degree An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution; Requirement specific in CLIA ’88 to perform high complexity testing (Required) or
- Bachelor’s Degree An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution; Requirement specific in CLIA ’88 to perform high complexity testing (Required)
Work Experience
- 4+ years Experience in a highly complex laboratory setting (Required)
- Grossing Biopsy experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of testing procedures and quality standards. (Required proficiency)
- Detail-oriented and organized, with good analytical and problem solving ability (Required proficiency)
- Demonstrated ability to implement new test systems and procedures (Required proficiency)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Required proficiency)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (Required proficiency)
- Effective customer service and interpersonal skills (Required proficiency)
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (Required proficiency)
- Demonstrated ability to implement and monitor change (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
- Medical Lab Technician (MLT-ASCP) (Required Upon Hire) or

Medical Technologist (MT-ASCP) (Required Upon Hire) or
- Histotechnician (HT-ASCP) (Required Upon Hire) or
- Histotechnologist (HTL-ASCP) (Required Upon Hire)
