The Respiratory Therapist Clinical Coordinator role within the UH Lake West Medical Center offers a unique chance to become part of a dynamic, collaborative interdisciplinary team. This position adds value to patient care and significantly assists individuals with breathing issues.
We currently offer an opportunity for a full time nights, Clinical Coordinator Respiratory Therapist to support patients in our acute care hospital in Willoughby.

A Brief Overview
The Respiratory Therapy Clinical Coordinator has met all core skills of a respiratory therapist III and is able to perform all of the general RCP duties. They act as a resource for respiratory therapists, physicians, nurses and other hospitals employees. They also function as a liaison between the staff and department manager. Responsible for clinical supervision of staff employees. Responsible for coordinating of shift assignments as needed. Initiates and maintains positive relationships with patients, caregivers, families and co-workers.
What You Will Do
- General RCP duties including mechanical ventilation, routine respiratory care, special procedures.
- Initiates and maintains positive relationships with patients, caregivers, and families and coworkers
- Takes responsibility for self development and supports a learning environment
- Displays commitment to the hospital and its mission and values
- Displays expertise in skills as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
- Clinical supervision of staff employees
- Provides leadership support, resources and assessment of personnel to maintain quality services
- Provides technical and clinical direction to staff, including staff orientation, training and development, quality initiatives and program development.
- Act as a resource, consultant for direct patient care for respiratory therapy staff, physicians, nurses or other hospitals employees.
- Function as a liaison between staff and department manager
- Coordinates or shift assignments as needed using either on-line workload or assignment tools.
- Troubleshoot, report broken equipment to the department operations assistant who will report to Clinical Engineering
Additional Responsibilities
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
- For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
- Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Education
- Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy (Required)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy (Preferred)
Work Experience
- 5+ years clinical experience in adult/pediatric respiratory care practice (Required)
- 5+ years clinical experience in critical care (Required)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Foundation of adult clinical care to include advanced therapies: inhaled nitric oxide, airway clearance modalities, mechanical ventilation, airway management, non-invasive ventilation, helium oxygen mixtures, tracheostomy care, blood gases and transport as applicable per site. (Required proficiency)
- Must demonstrate highly effective oral and written communication skills. (Required proficiency)
- Highly self-motivated and creative. Must be able to innovate and influence. (Required proficiency)
- Must work collaboratively with administrators, physicians, nurses and other health care providers. (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) (Required)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (Preferred)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (Preferred)
- Current RCP Ohio License granted by the Ohio Medical Board (Required)
- AARC membership (Required)
- Certified with at least one advanced national certification by the NBRC or CTTS certification. (Required – or must be obtained within 1 year from date of hire)
- NRP Certified (Neonatal facilities) (Required within 6 Months)
Position Details
Must have at least 5 years of respiratory therapy experience, 5 of those years in critical care. The schedule is (4) 10-hour shifts per week, 6:00pm – 4:00am. No weekends or holidays.
