Obstetrics Clinical Pharmacy Specialist University Hospitals – Cleveland, OH
University Hospitals is seeking a dedicated Obstetrics Clinical Pharmacy Specialist to join our growing pharmacy team. This role will provide clinical pharmacy services across multiple UH facilities, including MacDonald Women’s Hospital at UH Cleveland Medical Center (UH CMC), UH St. John Medical Center, UH Tripoint Medical Center, and UH Geauga Medical Center.
As part of a collaborative team of three Obstetrics Clinical Pharmacy Specialists, you will serve as a subject matter expert in Obstetrics and Maternal Fetal Medicine, actively participate in patient care rounds, and represent the pharmacy department on multidisciplinary committees. Experience with neonates is preferred but not required.
The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist provides a wide range of services in their area of expertise. These services may include, but are not limited to, rounding with physicians and other healthcare providers to drive evidence based and institution guideline directed medication therapy management, active participation in the training of pharmacy students and pharmacy residents, assist with policy and guideline development, and active participation in local and system level committees and workgroups in their area of expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized clinical pharmacy services in obstetrics across multiple UH hospitals.
- Participate in patient care rounds and multidisciplinary committees.
- Collaborate with a diverse team of Clinical Specialists in areas such as ICU, Solid Organ Transplant, Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry, Infectious Diseases, Oncology, Internal Medicine and Geriatrics.
- Contribute to clinical teaching and research initiatives.
- Educate and mentor PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residents in various specialties.
- Support a progressive pharmacy practice model and leverage advanced technology to optimize patient care.
- Provide Clinical Pharmacy Services (drug information, drug therapy monitoring, patient specific consultations, healthcare staff education, pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacoeconomic evaluations in selected patient populations)
- Investigate/research/report adverse drug reactions
- Participate in Medication Safety and Therapeutics (MS&T) Committee process: evaluate requests for new drug usage and old formulary drug relevance and review therapeutic classes for relevance, assist in maintaining and updating the system formulary
- Serve as an informational and patient problem solving resource for Clinical Pharmacists and other healthcare professionals
- Provide continuing education to Clinical Pharmacist staff
- Documentation of clinical activities
- Actively participate in local and system committees and workgroups pertaining to the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist’s area of expertise

- Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

- Doctorate Degree in Pharmacy with completion of an ASHP accredited residency/residencies or 3-5 years of experience in the practice area. (Preferred)
Work Experience
- less than 1 year Experience as a pharmacist with training in drug therapy of diseases including the knowledge and application of clinical pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, drug-drug interactions, and pharmaceutics to patients, training in cost analysis/cost evaluation techniques (Preferred)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Computer systems skills in spreadsheet, database and word processing (Preferred proficiency)
- Must demonstrate highly effective written and oral communication skills (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Pharmacist (R.Ph) in the State of Ohio (Required)
