JOB DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS

Description

Radiology candidates who accept a part-time or full-time position with University Hospitals are eligible for:

  • Competitive hourly rate (+elevated hourly rate for Cleveland Medical Center only)

A career as a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technologist is exciting for those who are passionate about health care, patient comfort and saving lives. As a technologist, you are asked to operate MRI scanners and to ensure that the procedure produces quality images and information for the health care professional to make an accurate diagnosis. You have the chance to work and interact directly with patients as you ensure that they are comfortable and calm. Utilize your medical knowledge by interviewing patients, explaining the procedure and placing the patient in the appropriate spot on the table. Technologists are also organized, detail-oriented people who are familiar with the anatomical area that is being scanned and the patient’s history. Develop relationships with patients as you help diagnose their condition as an MRI technologist.

A Brief Overview

Performs MRI scans at the direction of physician protocol. Provides compassionate age-specific care to patientsfrom neonates through geriatrics.

What You Will Do

  • Displays commitment to the mission of the hospital and its values
  • Provides age-specific care to patients from neonates through geriatrics.
  • Performs MRI scans as directed by radiologist
  • Patient care during visit to MRI
  • Knowledge of MRI equipment and safety in MRI environment.
  • Assures a safe and clean environment
  • Maintains knowledge of technical skills
  • Takes responsibility for self-development and supports a learning environment
  • Demonstrates successful technical/patient skills by efficiently implementing special procedure technology in the MR area
  • Uses administrative skills to contribute to the successful operation of the department
  • Collaborates effectively and in a timely manner with co-workers and clinical staff
  • Clear knowledge of modality specific equipment, computers, PACS, EMR and RIS.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Uses a variety of equipment specific to the area, including MR scanners, power injectors, andvarious computers.Must demonstrate effective organizational, written and oral communication skills.Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills.Ability to perform procedures specific to area.Answers phones and arranges schedule for in-patient requestInitiates and maintains positive relationships with patients/customers and coworkers
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate’s Degree Completion of an accredited 2 year program in a school of Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology (Required) or
  • Other Accredited Program: Completion of an accredited program in a school of Sonography with current ARDMS certificate (Required) and
  • High School Equivalent / GED (Required)

Work Experience

  • MR scanning experience. (Preferred)
  • New Graduates will be considered

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of sterile and surgical procedures. (Required proficiency)
  • Knowledge of MRI equipment and safety in MRI environment. (Required proficiency)
  • Knowledge of radiology information system. (Required proficiency)
  • Basic knowledge of oxygen tanks, suction machine and emergency equipment. (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

  • Any of the following: Registered Technologist MRI (ARRT-MR) or Registered Radiologic Technologist (RT:R) or Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) or Registered Technologist Radiation Therapy (ARRT-T) or ARDMS – American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (Required Upon Hire) and
  • Registered Technologist MRI (ARRT-MR) (Required within 1 Year) or
  • ARMRIT – American Registry of MRI Technologists (Required Upon Hire)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required Upon Hire)

ALVIN MANIGAULT: One of the things I was really impressed with my time being at UH, just from a managerial and leadership perspective, I think they do a phenomenal job. My leadership specifically in terms of just being involved and engaged and also listening as well to matters, issues or concerns and then working to establish some type of implementing change. I think subsequently for me as an employee, it really makes me feel as if I'm heard, my voice is heard and that also my perspective can have an impact on the overall overarching picture as well.
