JOB DESCRIPTION

Description

Reporting to the Manager, Development Communications, the Senior Specialist for Development Communications (Proposal Development) is primarily responsible for development communications to support donor solicitation, cultivation and stewardship activities.

• Writes and edits major gift proposals, focusing on gifts of $100,000 and above along with concept papers for approved fundraising priorities.

• Develops visually appealing solicitation materials, making use of graphic elements, icons and charts to present complex information in a concise and relatable manner.

• Cultivates strategic partnerships with development officers and appropriate hospital and physician leaders to help maximize successful outcomes of gift requests.

• Works collaboratively with development colleagues to develop strategic donor communications plans.

• Writes and edits development communications including acknowledgement letters, donor appeals, etc.

• Provides editing and proofreading for development colleagues.

• Manages additional special projects for communications as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s Degree required.

Experience & Knowledge:

• Minimum 5-7 years of writing and editing experience.

• Experience within a Development department at a major nonprofit organization preferred.

• Advanced level of writing and editing print and electronic communications, including impeccable proofreading skills and outstanding verbal communications skills.

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team, handling multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.

• Ability to set priorities, meet tight deadlines, and work with multiple staff constituencies within the organization and in the funding community.

• Highly motivated and resourceful.

Special Skills & Equipment Knowledge:

Proficient in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Acrobat. Prior Adobe Creative Cloud and fundraising database experience a plus.

This role encounters Protected Health Information (PHI) as part of regular responsibilities. UH employees must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain PHI for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
